ELLIS HENICAN is a columnist at Newsday, a popular television and radio commentator and the author of three New York Times bestselling books.
His long-running column, a personal, opinionated take on the news of the day, appears in the front section of Newsday, putting Ellis in the middle of politics, crime, celebrity and whatever else people in the New York area are talking about. He led Newsday to a Pulitzer Prize for spot-news coverage of the Union Square subway wreck.
Ellis’s television work includes 13 years as a contributor to Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network and numerous appearances on CNN, MSNBC and Bloomberg TV. On Fox, he appeared frequently on The O’Reilly Factor, Hannity, Your World with Cavuto, Fox & Friends and the networks’ other top shows, where he was known for his lively, liberal take on the news. His radio work includes hosting Henican & White, the afternoon-drive show on WOR Radio in New York and the Ellis Henican Show, a live, weekend program syndicated by Talk Radio Network.
Ellis has written five books in the past four years, all for top New York publishers. His most recent is The Party’s Over with former Florida Governor Charlie Crist (Dutton), an account of how the Republican Party has been hijacked by ideological extremists, leaving little room for common-sense moderates like Crist. Ellis’s other books include Damn Few with Navy SEAL Commander Rorke Denver (Hyperion, 2013), DOC: A Memoir with baseball great Dwight Gooden (New Harvest, 2013), In the Blink of an Eye with NASCAR legend Michael Waltrip (Hyperion, 2011) and Home Team with New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton (Penguin, 2010).
Ellis’s next book, How to Catch a Russian Spy, is the true story of how a regular young guy helped bust a Russian spy in New York in 2008. The book is being published early next year by Scribner. Film rights have been purchased by 20th Century Fox for director Marc Webb (Amazing Spider Man, I and II).
An entertaining public speaker and event moderator, Ellis is also the voice of Stormy on the hit Cartoon Network series, Sealab 2021.
A native of New Orleans, Ellis is a graduate of Jesuit High School, Hampshire College and the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. He lives in Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood with his wife, Stephanie Carvlin, a federal criminal-defense attorney.
